This form of Vitamin B6 is the active form. Vitamin B6 must be converted by the liver into Pyridoxal 5-Phosphate before it is active in the body. Some people do not do this well.

The body converts Vitamin B6 into P-5-P (pyridoxal-5-phosphate) before it can be used. This biologically active, coenzyme form of B6 promotes the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and amino acids.
